Bachman - You Cannot be Serious!

I'm having a complete John McEnroe melt down at the moment. For the youngsters out there, the phrase "You Cannot be Serious" was hurled at a Wimbledon Tennis umpire by an irate (and very immature) John McEnroe about a call. In fact, here it is:

I was working at Wimbledon that summer, in the umpires restaurant. Let me tell you, that umpire was most upset.

Anyway, "What's the meltdown about today Expat?" I can hear you asking. Not that I have a lot of meltdowns.  Well, not compared to McEnroe anyway.

It was announced this morning that Michele Bachman has put together a Presidential Exploratoy Committee. This is what people do when they know they shouldn't really even be thinking about a run for the Presidency. (The elections are in November 2012). Dipping their toe in the water, so to speak.

Here she is. A complete nutter, who is so far right she makes Sarah Palin look rational. Here's a couple of her more recent utterings:

-  praising Iowa voters for ousting three Supreme Court judges who supported legalising gay marriage

- telling same Iowa voters that "the government will always be a threat". But she's thinking about running for the biggest government job of them all....

- "I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on the issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back." (Did she learn nothing from the stupidity of Sarah Palin's words about "reloading?")

- ''Not all cultures are equal.'' (Yes, really. She did)

- “Lady Liberty and Sarah Palin are lit by the same torch.” (Speechless!)
- (Oooh, oooh, love this one): ''Normalization (of gayness) through desensitization. Very effective way to do this with a bunch of second graders, is take a picture of 'The Lion King' for instance, and a teacher might say, 'Do you know that the music for this movie was written by a gay man?' The message is: I'm better at what I do, because I'm gay.''

And perhaps my fave -

 - “But we also know that the very founders that wrote those documents worked tirelessly until slavery was no more in the United States.”

Erm, no sweetie. I think it took a little longer to abolish slavery. The Thirteenth Amendment in fact. In 1865.

I suppose I should look for the silver lining in all of this - that the more crazy Republicans on the ticket, the less likely any of them will be to get anywhere.

And stop laughing all of you who don't live here.
